The 2016 Met Gala Red Carpet Roundup

The 2016 Met Gala served up some bold and futuristic looks from the most prominent names in fashion, music, television, and film. Every year, this event promises one big sartorial moment after another with its fun themes and impressive guest list. The theme for this year is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology,” and the celebrities certainly had fun putting together their ensembles for the event. While some opted for the safe route in terms of their interpretation of the theme, others pulled out all the stops and totally embraced it.

1. Claire Danes

Claire Danes stepped out in a seemingly simple ball gown with a strapless neckline and full skirt from Zac Posen, which she styled with a slicked-back hairstyle and a brightly-colored lip.

But the best thing about her gown is that it lights up in the dark, and it definitely embodied the theme.

2. Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson made a stunning entrance in a custom gown from Atelier Versace, which features a strapless neckline, sheer panel cutout details, white leather, and a tulle hem. She styled it with soft waves, simple makeup, and statement nails.

3. Beyonce

Beyonce stepped out on the red carpet in a custom latex dress from Givenchy. Her peach form-fitting dress features long sleeves, a short train detail, and pearl embellishments. Smoky eyes, a beige clutch, and nude lips completed her look.

4. Alicia Vikander

Alicia Vikander was clad in head-to-toe Louis Vuitton at the 2016 Met Gala. She wore a custom dress from the label’s fall 2016 collection, which features a sleeveless design, an asymmetrical skirt, and contrasting details. As usual, she kept her hair and makeup simple, and she finished off her look with red-and-silver boots.

5. Ciara

Ciara showed up in an embellished dress from H&M, which features a halter neckline and nude underlining. She completed her look with silver hair, smoky eyes, and nude lips.

6. Emily Blunt

Emily Blunt dressed up her baby bump in a custom blue dress from Michael Kors Collection. It features long sleeves, a short train detail, and sequin embellishments. She finished off her look with a sleek updo, berry lips, and an assortment of jewels from Forevermark.

7. Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman looked stunning in a sheer black gown from Alexander McQueen’s fall 2016 collection. Her dress features a matching cape, a plunging neckline, cutout details, and silver moon embellishments. A braided updo, nude lips, smoky eyes, and an assortment of jewels completed her look.

Solange Knowles is no stranger to making bold sartorial choices. At this year’s Met Gala, she showed up in a bright yellow ensemble from David Laport, which consists of a pleated sheer dress and spandex stirrups. A pair of heels from Lucite Loewe completed her look.

9. Lupita Nyong’o

Lupita Nyong’o shimmered on the red carpet in her custom jade gown from Calvin Klein Collection. Her dress features a sleeveless design, a V-shaped neckline, crisscross straps on an open back, a long sheer tulle train, and sequin embellishments. She styled it with jewels from Tiffany & Co., heels from Jimmy Choo, and a sky-high sculptural updo.

10. Emma Watson

Emma Watson made a fashion statement at the 2016 Met Gala in her eco-conscious Calvin Klein Collection ensemble made entirely out of recycled materials. Her black-and-beige gown features an off-the-shoulder neckline and a sweeping train. According to her stylist, Sarah Slutsky, it is a five-piece look that consists of individual pieces that can be worn on their own for different occasions.

11. Amber Heard

Amber Heard made a sultry entrance in a rose gold gown from Ralph Lauren Collection, which  oozed with subtle sensuality and old Hollywood glamour. Her dress features a sleeveless design, a V-shaped neckline, a thigh-high slit, and a short train detail. She finished off her look with slightly tousled hair, vampy red lips, metallic pumps from Jimmy Choo, and jewelry from Anita Ko.

12. Brie Larson

Brie Larson stepped out on the red carpet in a custom dress from Proenza Schouler’s spring 2016 collection. 14. FKA Twigs

FKA Twigs attended the 2016 Met Gala in a dress from Atelier Versace, which features a sleeveless design, an open back, a floor-length skirt, and a short train detail.
