Vogue Hommes Paris Honors National Treasures

Vogue Hommes Paris celebrates French style and the Parisian way of life in its autumn/winter 2015 issue. It is filled to the brim with stories and photographic essays that explore the decadent lifestyle, charm, vitality, incandescent beauty, impressive sartorial sense, and je ne sais quoi of the French.

Regarding the theme, which primarily focuses on French style, editor-in-chief Olivier Lalanne muses, “Could it be that the nucleus of the French look, for non-French observers, might be embodied in an opposition between exacting standards on the one hand, and letting it all hang out on the other? Between formal and laid-back, between kowtowing to dress codes and a healthy dose of irreverence? The grandeur and the decadence of French charm, in other words.”

He tries to define what French style is and gives us a hint of what the autumn/winter 2015 issue is all about by encouraging us to “think fashions inspired by the free associations of a Jean Cocteau, by the willowy rocker silhouette of a Betty Catroux or a Loulou de La Falaise, draped in chunky ethnic jewelry, or the enfants terribles of the Bashung-Daho-Jacno triumvirate of pop: there’s a continuity there, the thread being a shared kind of pizzazz – dazzling, yet never affected.”

What better way to celebrate French style than by serving up a stunning editorial entitled “National Treasures,” which features iconic French men. Photographed by Karim Sadli, the editorial showcases black-and-white portraits of an eclectic group of creative geniuses such as actor Vincent Cassel, fashion designer and Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquière, singer Adrien Gallo, model and interior designer Hugo Sauzay, and actor Louis Garrel.
